A major report published in 2019 demonstrated widespread population declines of North American birds, with a net loss of 2.9 billion adult breeding birds since 1970, including many common and familiar species. These losses indicate an urgent need to address the causes of population decline, and there are many simple actions you can take to contribute to the conservation of birds and other wildlife. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology has released Seven Simple Actions most people can take to help support bird populations. Additionally, Wild Birds Unlimited has partnered with the National Wildlife Federation to champion their Wildlife Habitat program, which allows you to certify your yard as Certified Wildlife Habitat. For this in-store presentation, our employee Tanner Shepard will discuss the Seven Simple Actions provided CLO as well as the requirements for the Wildlife Habitat certification. Bio: Tanner Shepard became interested in birding at the age of 11. He is a passionate birder and has led bird walks at multiple birding-related events. He has a B.S. in Biology from Morehead State University and an M.S. in Wildlife Ecology from Texas State University. He has also been an employee at Wild Birds Unlimited in Frankfort since it opened in March of 2016, and has continued to work here while not in school.
